2 Chronicles 6 begins immediately after the glory of the Lord has filled the newly completed Temple.
Solomon declares that he has built a permanent house for the Lord and then turns toward the enormous assembly of Israel gathered before him.
The king blesses the congregation and praises the Lord for fulfilling the promise He made to David.
Solomon explains that although God had not previously chosen a city in Israel for His name, He chose Jerusalem and selected David to rule His people.
David desired to build a house for the Lord, but God told him that his son would accomplish the task instead.
Solomon declares that God has fulfilled this promise. He now sits upon David’s throne, has completed the Temple, and has placed the Ark of the Covenant within it.
Solomon then stands before the altar of the Lord upon a large bronze platform constructed in the courtyard.
In the presence of the entire congregation, Solomon kneels, spreads his hands toward heaven, and begins to pray.
He praises the Lord as the incomparable God who keeps His covenant and shows mercy toward those who faithfully walk before Him.
Solomon asks God to continue fulfilling His promise concerning the descendants of David.
He then acknowledges an extraordinary truth: even the heavens cannot contain God, much less the Temple Solomon has built.

He then acknowledges that everyone sins.
