However, the prophet turns his attention to the current condition of Judah. The people have embraced foreign customs, trusted in wealth, accumulated military power, and filled the land with idols. Instead of depending upon God, they place their confidence in earthly things.

The chapter concludes with a warning not to place trust in mankind, whose life is temporary and fragile. Instead, people should trust in the Lord alone.
