Habakkuk Chapter 2 records God’s answer to the prophet’s questions about injustice and the coming Babylonian invasion. God then pronounces five solemn “woes” against the wicked, exposing the sins that bring His judgment.
The first woe condemns those who gain wealth through greed and exploitation. Their stolen riches will eventually testify against them, and they will reap the consequences of their injustice.
The second woe is directed at those who build their security through dishonesty and oppression. No fortress built on evil can protect its builder from God’s judgment.

In the midst of these warnings, God declares one of the Bible’s greatest promises: “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”
The fourth woe condemns those who humiliate and disgrace others for their own pleasure and gain. God promises that their shame will return upon them.
The fifth woe exposes the foolishness of idolatry. Lifeless idols cannot speak, guide, or save, while the living God reigns over all creation.
The chapter concludes with a powerful declaration of God’s absolute sovereignty. The Lord is enthroned in His holy temple, and all the earth is called to stand in silent reverence before Him.
