To accomplish this enormous task, Solomon organized a vast workforce. He appointed seventy thousand laborers to carry burdens, eighty thousand stonecutters in the mountains, and thirty-six hundred supervisors to oversee the work.
Solomon then sent a message to Huram (also called Hiram), king of Tyre, whose father had maintained a friendly relationship with King David.
In his letter, Solomon requested skilled craftsmen and high-quality materials for the Temple project. He specifically asked for cedar, cypress, and algum wood from Lebanon, along with craftsmen experienced in working with gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone, and fine fabrics.
Solomon explained that the Temple would be dedicated to the worship of the Lord God of Israel and would serve as a place for continual sacrifices and sacred observances.
King Huram responded positively, praising the God of Israel for giving Solomon wisdom and understanding. He agreed to provide the requested materials and sent Huram-abi, a master craftsman skilled in various trades.
Huram arranged for the valuable timber to be cut in Lebanon and transported by sea to Israel. From there, it would be delivered to Jerusalem for construction.
The chapter concludes by noting that Solomon counted the foreign laborers living in Israel and assigned them to assist in the work.
